FES offers expertise in partnership development, market analysis, project design and management, training, and specialized technical assistance to strengthen capacities of – and linkages among – key actors within food systems. Period of performance and level of effort (LOE) The period of performance will be over 3 months, beginning on September 01, 2022, and ending on/about December 30, 2022. Total billable days will not exceed sixty-five (60) person days. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The Food Safety Specialist will carry out the following activities: In collaboration with the BD4FS Program Director and other team members, provide technical assistance to Growing Food Businesses (GFBs) as needed in the area of food safety (PRPs, pre-HACCP) and food technology. Ensure the accuracy of BD4FS Ethiopia communication materials, website content and other relevant technical information on all food safety matters. Develop and prepare (including conceptualizing, researching and writing) BD4FS technical notes, communications materials, and project reports. Participate in the selection and intake of BD4FS GFB participants Support the BD4FS business benchmark assessment and analysis. Assist with developing and adapting food safety messages aimed at businesses, consumers and the government agencies Support the local food safety capacity-building interventions under Bright House Consultancy and Training Limited, a global BD4FS. partner. Support the development and delivery of local food safety training and pedagogy. Provide local technical assistance and support to GFBs participants in adopting food safety practices and technologies. Stay up to date on any and all changes to Ethiopia FS regulations and policies and prepare short briefs on what those are for the BD4FS team and GFBs. As needed, provide training or in-house seminars for Ethiopia FES staff to improve their knowledge about FS. Support the BD4FS culture of food safety campaigns toward businesses, stakeholders, and consumers, especially youth and women. Contribute to the monitoring of Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) performance and learning indicators, and USAID deliverables. Contribute to the design of training modules and their adaptation to needs and conduct training sessions on food safety issues. Analyze expectations and apply active pedagogy adapted to different audiences. Create and adapt training materials taking into account the professional context and local languages (some targets have no formal academic training) Performs other duties as assigned.
Educational Requirements: Five to ten years of experience in food safety consulting, auditing and training (PRP, HACCP, etc.). Availability to conduct multi-day or week-long trainings outside the office, with possible travel outside of Addis Ababa.
