Job Summary

The Assistant cook/Cleaner is responsible and reliable to assist Head cook with ingredient preparation as well as perform all washing and cleaning duties required in the kitchen. Preparing lunch in accordance with the rules of hygiene, ensuring cooking, purchasing the food, and keeping lunch area and kitchen clean and ensure that all duties are completed in a timely manner. Ultimately, an outstanding kitchen Assistant should be able to comply with all food health and safety regulations

Key Responsibilities

·       Assisting Head cook with the preparation of meal ingredients, which includes washing, cleaning, peeling, cutting, and chopping fruit, vegetables, poultry, and meat.

·       Washing and appropriately storing all cooing appliances, instruments, utensils, cutting boards, and dishes.

·       Assist in any area of the kitchen, dining room as requested by Lead Cook or Base Officer

·       Ability to handle a number of tasks simultaneously

·       Properly cleaning and sanitizing all food preparation areas according to established standards of hygiene.

·       Maintain the kitchen by cleaning prep areas before and after use and making sure all equipment are clean.

·       Keep the kitchen, cooking utensils, freezer and refrigerator clean. Disinfect the refrigerator regularly.

·       Clean the oven and the cooking plates after each use.

·       Clean all aspects of the kitchen area & store rooms

·       Following company or competent policy in dealing with customer comments or complaints ▪ Comply with Health and Safety Regulations and Fire Policy. Report hazards to management.

·       Disinfect the refrigerator regularly.

·       Take responsibility for meal preparation. As directed by the Senior cook.

·       Skills to assist in preparation of weekly menus

·       Be alert to any food issue and raise these with Senior at once

Job Requirements

Education / Experience Needed

– Minimum 10+2 in Cook preparation

– Proven experience assisting in Kitchens

– Sound knowledge of food health and safety regulations.

Skills Required

– Ability to work well with others & ability to carry out tasks individually

-Multi task oriented with the ability to work.

-Excellent organizational

-Effective communication skills.

– The ability to work in a team

-The ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Language

– Good communication skill in Amharic & English

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral diagram, or schedule form.

·       The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be exposed to loud noises around the maintenance and construction workshops.
